The SPD election program was presented at the end of March and is still being worked on until the decision is made in May of this year. For the SPD’s „Future Program,“ which consists of four future missions, in addition to climate neutrality, work is also being done on the most modern mobility system in Europe, among other things.

In addition, innovations in the German healthcare system are on the agenda, which are expected to bring about far-reaching changes. The health policy measures relate primarily to the reorganization of the outpatient and inpatient sectors. The policy of the comrades focuses on the cooperation of so-called teams in private practice with hospitals and clinics. Nurses and doctors are to receive increased support through the digital transformation, according to the draft program. For example, „team-based forms of outpatient care“ are to be given priority. In addition, flat-rate case funding in pediatric and adolescent medicine is to be abolished. Women and children are accorded special importance for their health needs.

Being a rural doctor is more unpopular than ever because many physicians prefer to be employed. Here, it is important to respond to the needs.

Digitization is to be capitalized on via digital linking of sectors. The public health service is also to benefit from the digital infrastructure expansion. According to the SPD, digital potential is to be better exploited to ensure comprehensive healthcare. Digitization and the medical workforce form two pillars of healthcare that cannot function without dovetailing and collaboration.

Developing the best drugs and medical products, including customized products, is also on the agenda of the SPD’s program for the future. Here, investments in research work and in personnel are particularly important.

A new health economy with diagnostic tests and new drugs as a single entity is the goal of SPD politicians, who would like to finance the whole thing through a citizens‘ insurance scheme. In this context, profit limitation is the be-all and end-all, because „health is not a commodity. Profits generated through solidarity should also be returned to the German healthcare system, according to the vision of the Social Democrats.
