On November 26, 2019, the fourth edition of the Bitkom Digital Health Conference took place, to which representatives from politics, research, science, economy and society were invited to discuss the digitization of the health care system in lectures with 500 participants, 41 experts and eleven exhibitors. Digitization is no longer just a secondary aspect of the healthcare industry, but is necessary to ensure that everyone benefits, especially the patients. Patient centricity and the development of digital health applications with the involvement of patients, keyword patient-oriented digitization, was only one of many topics at the industry meeting on digitization and health. The main topic of the day was the exchange of experiences and opinions in connection with an update of the current healthcare system („Update for our Healthcare System“). What does the update contain and how it changes existing roles in the healthcare system, for example, were the questions. Company founders, leading personalities as well as politicians and scientists and many other actors in the healthcare system discussed at the eventful conference day, which focused on, among other things, health data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) as a pioneer for a digital transformation of the German healthcare system. There was agreement that investment in digital technologies and innovations is a must in order to advance the sustainability of the health system. Federal Minister of Health Spahn also came to the conference day to give a presentation on modernising the health care system in view of the shortage of skilled workers, urbanisation, multimorbidity and demographic change in society. He made efficient and comprehensive patient care with the promotion of digital and technological solutions and much more a core topic of discussion.
