The online US giant Amazon wants to start its mail-order business in India, more precisely in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore, as several media such as the Indian daily newspaper „India Today“ are currently reporting in agreement. The Pharmaceutical Newspaper (PZ) has also heard this news. According to the report, Amazon is focusing primarily on the over-the-counter (OTC) business in the city of ten million people, but prescription drugs (Rx) are also likely to be launched for mail order, after having received prescriptions from patients. However, medical products also belong in this area as well as traditional products of the Indian healing method „Ayurveda“. However, nobody knows exactly when it will start. Recently there have been attempts for several years to conquer the Indian pharmaceutical mail-order market. Amazon had already intended to do so in 2018, when the mail-order company also took over the American online pharmacy PillPack in order to send patient-specific drug dosages as blister packs. The PillPack brand has not been around ever since, and is now called Amazon Pharmacy. It is said that Amazon wants to establish the brand with the pre-sorted single-dose packages in three other countries such as Australia, Canada and Great Britain, but there has not yet been any shipping activity.
