The health insurance company Barmer has founded its own „Barmer Institute for Health Research“, BIFG for short, which operates as a center of excellence for care and health system research and is divided into three research areas: „Strategic Analyses“, „Health System Research“ and „Medicine and Care Research“. Data and analyses of current evaluations and research on various topics, such as currently on Covid-19 infections, will also be launched as an interactive data portal. The aim of the scientific institute is to achieve a broad impact by publishing health care reports and analyses. These include the annual publication „Gesundheitswesen aktuell“ and the annual Barmer Care and Research Congress, at which top-class experts from the fields of health policy, care research and medicine discuss issues. The BIFG’s interactive data portal then provides the general public and all interested parties with all important information on current data, statistics and analyses of the health care system. The users of the portal find a clearly arranged and uniformly structured platform. The Institute is an independent unit within the health insurance fund, which also develops analyses and concepts in cooperation with other actors in the health care system, particularly on questions of care and systems. In addition, the scientific advisory board of renowned personalities works hand in hand with the BIFG. These experts include Boris Augurzky, Wolfgang Greiner, Thomas Mansky, Leonie Sundmacher, Petra Thürmann and Jürgen Wasem, who meet twice a year as members and are to provide further scientific and practical impulses in order to integrate them into the research activities. However, the analyses and questions should not only become the basis for scientific but also for political discourse in the health care system.
