In Germany, many people have been treated by doctors for a suspected corona infection. In the state of Bavaria alone, more than 500,000 people have been treated, even though only slightly less than 230,000 citizens throughout Germany have actually become infected with the SARS CoV-2 virus to date, and fewer than 10,000 of them have died. At the same time, however, many people stayed at home for fear of infection and did not go to the doctor, according to the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Bayerns (KVB), which, according to an analysis, blames young patients in particular for empty waiting rooms. According to the analysis, the months of March and April 2020 were the weakest months with patient decreases of 25 and 21 percent respectively. From May onwards, the upturn returned, so that by the end of June there was almost no difference to the previous year. Younger patients were more likely to seek help from doctors with telemedical services such as video consultation hours, as the KVB analysis also revealed. Most people then visited online consultations for the first time ever. However, most of the Covid-19-infected patients in Bavaria were treated on an outpatient basis, so that the available bed capacities were not fully utilized in the southern federal state either.
