At the beginning of 2022, the electronic prescription (e-prescription) developmed by gematik is to be available to all insured persons. As part of the „eRezept Deutschland“ initiative of the statutory health insurers Die Techniker, BARMER, DAK-Gesundheit, AOK Bayern and HEK, BIG direkt gesund already offers its insureds their own e-prescription app for free use. Via the app, participating doctors can issue the e-prescription during telemedical remote treatment. Insured persons receive a QR code, which they can then redeem at participating pharmacies in-store or online. They can also search for pharmacies and practices in the app and pre-order medications.
Peter Kaetsch, CEO of BIG direkt gesund, sees the digital processing of prescriptions as a significant advantage for patients, as visits to the doctor’s office to pick up prescriptions can in some cases be completely eliminated in the future. For doctors, the app offers a better overview of medication documentation. Kaetsch also emphasizes that the digital processes are compliant with data protection and meet the requirements of the applicable security standards.
BIG’s e-prescription is currently being further developed in order to supplement the offering in the future for digital prescriptions for other service areas.
