In order to contain the corona pandemic as quickly as possible, the world-renowned company Bosch and Randox Laboratories, a global leader in healthcare diagnostics based in the UK, have developed a fully automated molecular diagnostic test that is the only test that can detect the infectious disease COVID-19 in 150 minutes, an impressively fast time. Randox Laboratories provides hospitals, laboratories and other institutions with innovative solutions as an in-vitro diagnostics company. In this exceptional situation, however, the company is making a major contribution to the rapid containment of the corona pandemic. In just six weeks of cooperation with Bosch Healthcare Solutions, the company has succeeded in developing the innovative and unique test, which is designed to help hospitals, doctors‘ practices, laboratories and healthcare centers identify sick people with or without symptoms so that they can be isolated. Bosch Healthcare Solutions, as a cooperation partner, has developed the Vivalytic analysis device, which allows the rapid test to be decoded by molecular diagnostics and read without the need for laboratory personnel. Other tests for detecting the novel SARS-CoV-2 pathogen generally require two and a half days to obtain the test result. In contrast to the fully automated Randox test, these tests have to detect the antibodies of coronavirus sufferers and do not always provide reliable results. The patient’s sample from the nose or throat, which is taken using a swab, is simply inserted into the modern Vivalytic device from Bosch for analysis, together with a cartridge containing all the reagents required for the test run, and the result is read off after two and a half hours at the latest. There is also no need for a time-consuming logistics chain, as the sample can be analyzed directly at the point of collection. The test analyzes the DNA of the pathogen.
