The German Medical Technology Association (BVMed) generally welcomes the „Digital Care and Nursing Modernization Act“, or DVPMG for short. However, it criticizes the fact that electronic prescriptions (e-prescriptions) have not yet been made simultaneously valid by the legislator for aids and products in accordance with Section 31 of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V). Enteral nutrition, i.e. drinking and tube feeds, dressings or products for wound care as well as blood glucose test strips for diabetics would have to be included in the supply process in parallel, according to BVMed. The electronic prescription of medical aids on the basis of e-prescriptions is closely linked to various supply processes in other product areas, so that a simultaneous introduction makes sense.

As an example, the Federal Association cites the introduction of balanced diets as tube feedings, which cannot be administered at all without appropriate aids such as feeding pumps, tubes and transfer devices. In this area, respective product areas should be included in the digital aid prescription in order to sensibly supplement the expansion of the telematics infrastructure (TI). Otherwise, according to BVMed, there would be overlaps, duplicate structures, delayed care processes and higher administrative expenses.

BVMed sees many good approaches in the DVPMG, but not always the right solutions in the digitization process. For example, the association also calls for the integration of healthcare providers and midwives in the care process with digital health applications (DiGA). In addition, ancillary service providers such as homecare providers should be linked to the e-prescription. BVMed’s medical device expert Juliane Pohl also believes that a legal regulation for the integration of information in the provision of medical devices with regard to the electronic patient record (ePA) is essential.

The so-called digital care applications (DiPA), which are planned for outpatient care facilities as support and relief, should also be extended to other application areas, which also include inpatient care areas.
