The health insurer Barmer has just recently introduced a new authentication procedure with which insured persons can be activated for the electronic patient file (ePA), which is called eCare at Barmer. The new digital identity verification is one of two options offered by the health insurer.
The digital identity check is secure, i.e., meets all standards, is user-friendly, uncomplicated and, above all, can be implemented without contacts, because the previous procedure was only possible via authentication at the local office.
In addition, Barmer members can also be activated for the Barmer eRezept app. Both digital verification processes, Care, and eRezept app, were developed by the Hamburg-based company Nect in cooperation.
However, initial registration for the digital version of Barmer eCare is only possible with certain identification documents such as an ID card or passport, as well as an electronic health card. Smart technical devices such as a tablet with a camera are also needed to initiate the whole thing, but then you are activated within a day.
Prof. Dr. Christoph Straub, the head of Barmer, hopes that he will find sufficient acceptance among his patients because the benefits of digital achievements are all the greater the more data is stored and the more players in the healthcare system pull together. In early July, doctors‘ practices will join, as will dentists and psychotherapists. Hospitals and clinics will not be added until January 2022.
