For the time being, there will be no compulsory vaccination in Germany because the current federal government consisting of the SPD and the CDU/CSU is not introducing compulsory vaccination. The future coalition is also not planning to introduce compulsory vaccination.

Nevertheless, the opinion research institute YouGov asked voters of all parties whether mandatory vaccination should be introduced: according to the poll, 44 percent of people in Germany are in favor of mandatory immunization against the SARS-CoV2 virus, 27 percent only for individual occupational groups such as nursing and hospital staff, and 27 percent do not think anything at all of mandatory vaccination.

CDU/CSU, SPD and FDP voters are disproportionately strongly represented and want mandatory vaccination with over half of voters, followed by left-wing voters with 46 percent and supporters of the Greens with 44 percent. AfD and non-voters rank last with just over 30 percent.

Other countries already have mandatory vaccination, albeit only for certain occupational groups. In Germany, 76 percent of pharmacists would prefer mandatory vaccination and 67 percent of employed PTAs. However, many are also in favor of a duty to provide information to owners, according to a survey by aposcope.

In January 2021, shortly after the introduction of immunization, 56 percent of first-time respondents to the YouGov analysis were against a general vaccination requirement and only 33 percent were in favor.
