The service company, GWQ ServicePlus AG, a community of medium-sized health insurance companies originally founded by company health insurance funds, has entered into strategic cooperation with scanacs GmbH and will decisively advance the digitalization of the health care system as of April 1, 2020. As a Dresden-based IT company with innovations in the healthcare market, scanacs GmbH specializes in digital solutions, even though the company was not founded as a start-up until 2016. It now employs 19 people who develop checking algorithms via its scanacs platform, so that medical prescriptions can be checked in real-time for reimbursability before being dispensed in pharmacies. For pharmacies, but also for health insurance companies and patients, the real-time check has only advantages, because reimbursability checks, which can often take up to twelve months due to the complicated process, are no longer necessary. Unnecessary retaxations are also ruled out. The innovative testing system provides health insurance companies with a direct level of communication with pharmacies, enabling them to make binding decisions in response to inquiries about individual cases within a short time. The digital prescription checking and accounting system are intended to contribute to a more efficient simplification of the day-to-day work of pharmacies, since 750 million prescriptions are submitted annually in the 19,000 pharmacies throughout Germany, making 470 million prescriptions. The prescribed drugs must then be checked for reimbursability before they are passed on to the customer.
