Currently, an app for the follow-up care of mainly younger heart transplant patients is being tested in a one-year pilot project phase at the University Hospital in Heidelberg. The app enables heart patients to access the health and patient files of the University Hospital in Heidelberg, known as PEPA for short, and to view findings, compare laboratory values and read administrative documents. It is also planned to integrate other hospitals into the app, which has been developed in cooperation with different experts. The Institute of Cardiomyopathies in Heidelberg and the heart transplantation team of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Pneumology were involved in the development of the app. All of them worked together on the medical content and software requirements, while the app was developed with the support of EXIST, a funding programme of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. The team led by Oliver Heinze from the Department of Medical Information Systems (MIS) was in charge of the development, which also carried out the technical integration, but also involved the Centre for Information and Medical Technology (ZIM). All Heidelberg participants followed all data protection guidelines.
