Karl Lauterbach as a health expert of the SPD (Social Democratic Party) and with a lot of knowledge in the areas of health policy, science and research, has only recently given an interview to the trade magazine „journalist“.

According to it he is not aversed taking over the post of the Federal Minister of Health, if after exploratory talks it becomes clear that SPD, FDP (Liberal Party) and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Green Party) form a coalition. Although he is not part of the exploratory team of the SPD, he has so much self-confidence that he could take over the portfolio of the Ministry of Health, he explained in the interview, because already in the Corona crisis he became popular and appreciated as an opinion leader.

If Karl Lauterbach were to become Federal Minister of Health, he would immediately tackle three topics in particular, which would include debureaucratization and improved communication between doctors‘ offices and hospitals. In addition, medical issues relating to more preventive measures are burning under the nails of the current health expert. He would therefore immediately push for the expansion of preventive measures. But training measures for more medical students would also be at the top of the agenda, so as not to have to fear a shortage of doctors in ten years‘ time.

If the so-called „traffic light coalition“ were to come about, it would therefore not be out of the question for Lauterbach to become Jens Spahn’s successor.
