Scientists from various research institutions such as the Beth Deaconess Medical Center in Israel (BIDMC) around research director Aakriti Gupta, the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York and University College London around study director Dr Michael Zandi have analyzed and demonstrated the symptoms and late effects of COVID-19 disease. According to these studies, the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus can trigger dangerous systemic complications with late effects that have not yet been researched in detail. The researchers conclude, however, that the coronavirus can not only cause severe respiratory symptoms with shortness of breath and inflammatory processes in the beginning but can also damage other organs of the body in the long term, including the kidneys and brain with neurological impairments such as headaches, fatigue, dizziness and loss of smell. Cardiovascular complaints were also no less common. However, the analysis, based on own experience and on the evaluation of scientific findings made so far, shows above all the attack on cells of blood vessels lining the walls of the vessels. Here, the viruses attack the cells so that they become inflamed. Due to the inflammatory processes, small and also large blood clots begin to form, which block the veins and can also spread throughout the body. The consequences are then strokes or an increased risk of strokes, inflammation of the brain and even nerve damage. The full extent after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus cannot yet be accurately assessed. Since the immune system’s reaction can get so out of control, ways and means have to be found to interrupt the defence cycle once it is set in motion, which can end in a vicious circle.
