People with disabilities should be given special consideration and priority in Germany’s vaccination regulations, according to federal and state disability commissioners. These include, in particular, people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, and hard of hearing, but also have limited mobility and cognitive impairments. This is clear from the list of demands made by the ombudspersons for the disabled.
Among the particularly prioritized measures belong according to it a distribution of more FFP2-Masken, an increased requirement on antigen quick tests, and a clear vaccination prioritization, which is comprehensible for humans with handicaps.
The safety aspect of all measures should be in the foreground, the experts demand, because, in the case of the named target group, the risk of infection is increased through contact with assistants and caregivers. Some of those affected also live in care facilities and are surrounded by care staff on a daily basis. In addition, people with disabilities have a significantly increased risk of contracting a severe course of COVID-19. The federal government’s commissioner for people with disabilities, Jürgen Dusel, also says that barrier-free access during the registration process at vaccination centers fits into the revised overall concept.
