According to the Tagesspiegel, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) is planning a new law that will specify the design of the electronic patient file (ePA) more precisely. As of January 1, 2021, the ePA must be made available by the statutory health insurance companies (GKV) throughout Germany. The new law will be presented in a few weeks and will focus on patient data protection. An important part of this will be the regulation of access to the file.
After the largest European hacker association, the Chaos Computer Club (CCC), discovered security flaws last December, Spahn is now planning a joint meeting. Also, further tests of the file are to be carried out by the CCC. Spahn is convinced that in the long term, the e-File will facilitate communication between doctors and between doctors and patients and at the same time guarantee data security.
