In the official announcement of the RKI (Bulletin), one can find listings in tabular form that reflect the greatest risk factors for a covid-19 infection with a severe or even fatal course.

Accordingly, the patient’s age is the greatest risk factor for becoming severely ill with covid-19 or even dying. Here, those over 80 years of age have the worst conditions and are in the first position in the table. According to various cohort studies, some involving more than 20,000 patients, age is the number one risk factor. According to these studies, however, the disease not only affects the lungs, but the entire body, with symptoms such as diarrhea, thrombosis, and changes in smell and taste. The symptoms are manifold.

Similarly, concomitant diseases as possible risk factors, of which overweight (obesity) is seventh in the probability of possible mortality risk from a BMI value of over 30. Obesity is listed in seventh position in the RKI table, whereas bronchial asthma is only in 23rd position and thus occupies the last place. Over 60-year-olds with pre-existing conditions are also far less at risk than even older people.

In the bulletin, the following list of places one to six can be found, i.e. a risk group classification, which has significance for the prioritization of vaccinations:
In first place are people over 80 years of age who have the highest risk of death from SARS-CoV-2 infection. People with Down syndrome occupy 2nd place, followed by those aged 70 to 79 years. People after organ transplants occupy 4th place. 5th place consists of people between the ages of 60 and 69. Then come dementia patients and, in 7th place, those with obesity, who fall into the third group of the vaccination schedule, as they have a higher risk of not surviving Corona if they become seriously ill, compared to people with asthma, COPD or cancer – all of whom are in group 4 of the schedule.
Consequently, the obese are in the same group of the vaccination schedule as those over 70 years of age, organ transplant recipients, medical facility personnel, to name a few, who should be vaccinated as soon as possible.
