The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is building on artificial intelligence (AI) in public health research to improve public health in Germany and internationally. For this reason, a Center for AI in Public Health Research, or ZKI-PH for short, is currently being set up in Brandenburg to use new methods to make large volumes of data from health research more usable.
The integrative research in this field then serves to make an important contribution to the protection of the population nationally and internationally.

The interdisciplinary and innovative tasks of the ZKI-PH then include, for example, pandemic analyses, but also further development of early warning systems for epidemiological events such as the Corona crisis. In addition, the scope of work of the new unique center of the RKI also includes an improvement of the calculation of disease burdens as well as the related complex objectives.
At the new site in Wildau, which is being financed with funding from the Coal Region Structural Improvement Act, construction of the building is already underway, as is the job posting for 101 employees at the center. The Technical University (TH) Wildau, which is located in the neighborhood, is to support the ZKI-PH with its expertise in life sciences and computer science, which is currently also still looking for a director for the Brandenburg site. In a few months, however, things can get underway so that the new AI-supported methodology can provide new impetus.
