So-called professional service robots have increased in sales value by 32 percent to 11.2 billion US dollars in the last two years. This trend is set to continue until at least 2023, experts from the International Federation of Robotics, or IFR for short, predict, who divide the market into three major segments: Medical robots, logistics robots and field robots. Medical robots for professional use are of particular interest to the German healthcare system. According to the IFR, medical robots will have a market share of 47 percent in 2019. In addition, they achieved the highest unit prices, because medical robots have become indispensable in surgery, for example. The turnover of medical robots was 5.3 billion US dollars, an increase of 28 percent, because in 2018 the turnover was „only“ 4.1 billion US dollars. Experts expect double-digit billion US dollar sales of around 12.6 billion US dollars in 2023. American and European manufacturers clearly dominate the market in this segment. Only ten percent of medical robots are produced by other suppliers in the world. This year, robots in the field of disinfection will be of particular interest in order to professionally counteract the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 virus. Assistance robots for people with disabilities and also for the elderly are also a market with a future, as the sales value recently rose by 17 percent to 91 million US dollars, according to estimates. Assistants in this category are high-tech products that are tested in research projects in various countries. The president of the IFR, Milton Guerry, assumes that demographic changes in society will lead to a further increase in sales in this area as well.
