Stiftung Warentest informs insurers of statutory health insurance companies about the contribution rates, which are kept stable by most insurance companies. However, there are 18 health insurance companies, mostly regional company health insurance companies, which increased their contribution rate by up to 0.66 percentage points at the turn of the year. Fortunately, two insurance companies, AOK Sachsen-Anhalt and Debeka BKK, have lowered their contribution rates. The AOK Saxony-Anhalt even waived the additional contribution completely. In spite of everything, Stiftung Warentest does not recommend rashly changing a fund in order to save 200 to 300 euros per year as with the cheapest fund in Germany, the hkk. Because according to the foundation it can be worthwhile to compare additional contributions and voluntary benefits, since many insurance companies grant subsidies for extra services that are not included in the catalogue of services, such as for medically prescribed osteopathic applications or for professional tooth cleaning at the dentist. Savings when changing insurers depend not only on the contribution rate of the insurance company, but also on the level of the individual’s income. Stiftung Warentest therefore advises caution and exact comparison in any case.
