Telemedicine providers such as Jameda or Doctolib are becoming increasingly popular in times of crisis. One provider that has been working towards this for five and a half years is the on-demand telemedicine provider Teleclinic, which can quickly make an appointment in an emergency. Teleclinic managing director Katharina Jünger expects the complete breakthrough in this business field by the beginning of next year at the latest. Prior to this, the eligibility for reimbursement would have to be clarified, although this will be introduced as early as 28 May 2020. From this date, online consultation hours will be fully reimbursed by the statutory health insurance (GKV). This eligibility for reimbursement depends on three points: Point one is the KBV certification, which is important because security aspects have priority. The patient is admitted by showing the patient’s insurance card at home on the screen; the comparison of the data and the photograph is simply carried out by the attending physician. The billing model for physicians must be transferred to the standard process of practices. The Teleclinic platform is available for documentation and invoicing, and integrates it into the daily routine of doctors. According to the managing director, the doctors‘ resistance has fallen massively because doctors in the Corona crisis realised that they cannot earn money if they do not submit to change processes. The last building block that is still missing is therefore only the e-prescription, which is already well on the way as the model version „Gerda“ and as a private prescription model and must be extended to all parts of the country. Specifications of gematik, for which the Teleclinic developers are waiting, have already been announced for June 30, 2020. Patients are convinced that the breakthrough could be achieved by the end of the year – only two percent of those surveyed in a recent e-patient survey stated that they had already received telemedical treatment. According to Jünger, the aim is to maintain and expand market shares, which have already led to extreme success with Corona. In the Covid 19 pandemic, Teleclinic, like other providers, has adapted its offer and treated patients with corresponding symptoms free of charge and provided them with Sars-CoV-2 test kits for use at home.
