Precisely because of the avoidance of social contacts, some companies in Germany are booming in the corona crisis in particular. Temporary closures of many companies, however, lead to an economic upswing in other sectors, from which online trade and parcel services in particular benefit. Despite the uncertainty, the German population is very happy to buy on the Internet. Essential products from companies such as supermarket and drugstore chains are now in such great demand for their delivery services that hardly any appointments are left. Frozen food manufacturers such as Eismann and Bofrost are also using the business, which has almost doubled in size according to Eismann’s managing director. However, the winners in the Corona crisis are also home office software manufacturers and online services that make video conferencing possible. However, customers often use free versions first, so it is necessary to see whether long-term paying customers will remain loyal to the offers. 3M, a global multi-technology group based in Minnesota, USA, manufactures, among other things, respirators, protective suits and hygiene products so that medical personnel can protect themselves against infections. Due to the corona pandemic, a large number of respiratory masks are now also being produced at the Neuss site to ensure that doctors and nursing staff are protected in the near future. However, here too, demand exceeds capacity, as a company spokeswoman for 3M announced. Even the Dupont plant in Luxembourg, which currently produces protective suits around the clock, is not lagging behind in terms of production and delivery. The same applies to Sagrotan, which speaks of an „exponential demand“ for disinfectants as well as for corona infected persons. In order to be able to combat the corona virus in the long term, pharmaceutical companies such as CureVac are among the hopefuls in the EU, which will be supported with 80 million euros for the research and development of a vaccine. The Hilden-based company Qiagen also benefits from the corona crisis, as it produces tests for the detection of the novel viral disease in piecework; currently not only at its headquarters but also in Barcelona, in three shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The same applies to BIW Insulation Materials, which has recently started to produce breathing tubes in Ennepetal because of the huge demand. The company originally specialised in drainage and filter systems that prevent PCB-contaminated substances from escaping.
