The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced that it is still mainly women who are employed as nursing staff in hospitals. In 2010, 86 percent of the 406,000 nurses were women. Comprising 80 percent of the 713,000 co-workers, the percentage of women in non-medical hospital services also outweighs that of men.
The only field in hospitals dominated by men is technical services. Here the share of male employees is 93 percent.
