The generics manufacturer Basics, which has been part of the Ranbaxy group since 2000, has started selling a Lipitor copy named Atorvastatin in Germany.

Lipitor, a cholesterol lowering drug, is the best selling drug of all times. In Germany, the drug has netted Pfizer a profit of 130 billion Euro since 1997. Additional generic versions are also planned to be brought on the market in The Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.
