Global pharmaceutical and chemical company Merck KgaA has taken over Berlin based company Biochrom AG. A contract has been signed, but details of the deal are not yet known. It is apparent that the competition authorities must still approve the takeover. Both sides are welcoming the acquisition, expected to be complete by the end of 2012. The main activities of Biochrom AG include the production and marketing of cell culture media and buffer solutions for drugs of both a clinical and commercial nature. Currently they employ around 60 people, and in 2011 generated an annual turnover of EUR 13 million.
