The Federal Health Department (BMG) does not view foreign mail-order pharmacies as a threat to established local pharmacies. In the context of nationwide supply, mail-order retail is just another component, however, is not suitable if the supply needs to be located nearby. The department does not think that quality is an issue, because mail-order pharmacies have the same safety standards as independent pharmacies in Germany.
Furthermore, the BMG welcomes the approach by some health funds to point out to their insurance customers that there might be price advantages through ordering by mail . A speaker for the BMG stated: „Mail-order pharmacies are helpful for people with restricted mobility and for working people“.
