Since last week, a discount promotion introduced by pharmacy chain Boots in Great Britain has become a sensation. Boots, which in June this year was partially taken over by American pharmacy chain Walgreens, offers its customers a special discount on the entire range of pharmacy products.
This includes the entire cosmetic and ‚over the counter‘ range, as well as a selection of prescription drugs. The promotion is 3 products for the price of 2. Here, however, Boots must observe some rules: the British pharmaceutical company must be very careful selling large amounts of products with the same active ingredients. Also, questionable pharmaceutical combinations must not be sold together.
The Pharmacists‘ Association criticised the discount promotion, raising issues over patient safety because such actions would not benefit health, but rather motivate patients to buy more pharmaceutical products than needed.
