The trend toward urbanization is in full swing in China. The population-richest land therefore has to secure health care in the densely populated as well as the rural areas, especially for old people. The primary goal here is to try and keep the financial burden on young people as low as possible in future.
In this context, over the next three years, China is planning to train up to seven million people in the area of geriatric nursing for outpatient treatment of older people. Matters are complicated more by the increasing prevalence of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and obesity for which the staff also has to been trained.
Additionally, China has been aiming since 2009 to enable universal access to health care by implementing a new health care reform.
