According to a study by the Congress of the German Chamber of Commerce (DIHK), pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers of medical products, nursing homes, and hospitals are planning to create 70,000 new positions this year. DIHK president Hans Heinrich Driftmann mentioned in connection with this: "This is being initiated especially by staff-intensive health and social services, but also medical technology." More than four million people were employed in the healthcare sector.
However, Driftmann is concerned about developments in regard to the growing scarcity of skilled personnel. In reference to this, he held out the prospect of a complementary nursing occupation, endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce, to address the lack of nursing training.
