Insurance companies Axa, Gothaer and Hausärztliche Vertragsgemeinschaft (HÄVG), an organisation managing the contracts for the German Association of General Practitioners, drew a first conclusion after starting their nationwide cooperation three months ago. Thus, the cooperation with its focus on drug check has been well received.
The cooperation targets „Optimizing primary care with regards to stipulated and mandatory standards“ and „Strenghtening the position of the family doctor“ were well received by doctors. Furthermore, doctors showed a great deal of interest in advisory services for holders of private comprehensive insurance, especially drug checks.
Centerpiece of the nationwide cooperation – in operation since September – ist a drug check that holders of Gothaer and AXA private comprehensive insurance can make use of at no charge at participating doctors. As studies show, notably people aged 65 and older do often take several prescription drugs. In a doctor-patient consultation the family doctor can optimize the entire medication in order to avoid side effects or other complications. The check is an element of the medical fee schedule and will be reimbursed by insurance companies Gothaer and AXA for holders of private comprehensive insurance.
