By the end of the year, 80% of insured people will be equipped with the new electronic health card (eGK). Thus, more than the minimum 70% of policyholders would have received their eGK. This information is according to Rainer Höfer from the GKV-Spitzenverband, in a recent address at the IT-Trends Medizin Health Telematics conference on the 12th September in Essen.
One reason for the high proportion of the eGK system roll out is that health insurance companies have changed the routine exchange of the old insurance cards, for example, when a change of address must occur on the health card. So far, the scheme has been successful with no major problems. Also, the replacement of card readers in medical offices has gone smoothly.
