The Federal Medical Association (BÄK) is demanding a strengthening of private health insurance instead of questioning its existence and discussing a uniform insurance market.
According to BÄK president Dr. Frank Montgomery, the co-existence of statutory and private health insurance is one of the biggest strengths of the German health system. It would be wrong to achieve the necessary modernization of the statutory health insurance (GKV) system through ‚destabilizing‘ private health insurance (PKV).
Instead, the competition between the two systems should be stabilized through further developing the GKV and strengthening the PKV.
