Hospital expenditure in the 2nd Half of 2011, and in the 1st Half of 2012, increased by two percent compared to the same period last year. This was evident from the first-time-published benchmark for hospitals by the Federal Statistical Office . A total of EUR74 billion had been spent in hospitals.
The benchmark represents the average annual percentage change in hospital costs. Since September of this year, this will be applied in the hospital financing.
In the long term, it will replace the so-called basic salary rate, which limits the level of prices for inpatient hospital services currently.
