The Berlin nursing home operators Marseille-Kliniken has increased its profitability in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012/13 and achieved an EBIT of EUR 4.3 million.

This represents an increase over the previous year where EBIT stood at EUR 3 million (+43 percent).

The increase in revenues to EUR 50.0 million (previous year: EUR 48.2 million) could be attributed to the higher occupancy rate of 90.6 percent. A year earlier it was still 88.5 percent.

The good result is due to the strategy introduced last year. Key elements of the strategy were: the focus on senior care, strengthening of quality leadership and the introduction of a decentralised management structure.

„We are very satisfied with the current development. Nevertheless, our core business segments with the outpatient and inpatient care has continued to a vacancy rate of about 9%. At this point we have significant potential, which until now was also due to the general shortage of skilled workers in the care sector, not exploited.“ Says Michael Thanheiser, CEO of Marseille-Kliniken AG.
