After implementing streamlining measures in Switzerland, pharmaceutical and chemical company Merck is to begin cutting the red tape in Germany. Specifically, it aims to reduce employee numbers by 1,100, from 10,900 now to 9,800 by the end of 2015. Redundancies are not expected as part of the process. In addition, EUR 250 million is to be invested at its headquarters in Darmstadt and at other locations in Germany.
