The Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche grew stronger than the German pharmaceutical market in the first nine months in Germany because of the strong demand for cancer drugs. The total turnover of the world’s leading manufacturer of drugs to treat cancer increased in Germany by 3.9 percent to EUR 3.9 billion. Germany is the largest pharmaceutical market in Europe. So far this year, it has grown by around three percent said Hagen Pfundner, Germany head of Roche Pharmaceuticals.

The product portfolio of Novartis‘ competitors was burdened by the statutory mandatory discount of around EUR 180 million per year by 2013. The recent recertification of cancer drugs such as Roche Zelboraf could cushion the impacts of the discounts, however.
