The pharmaceutical manufacturer Stada wanted to lessen its dependence on a strongly regulated home market through two takeovers in Russia and thereby strengthen the position on its most important foreign market. However, for now the transactions have failed.

Talks regarding the takeovers of Pharmstandard, the largest Russian pharmaceutical company, and the pharmaceutical company Valenta, which is not listed on the stock exchange, by the generics manufacturer from Bad Vibel had been far advanced.

The Russian partners at Pharmstandard, however, insisted that Stada should leave them some control. Furthermore, the Russian government wanted to come on board as an investor. The takeover of Valenta, on the other hand, would have been too complex according to Valenta boss Itin.
