Takeda, the largest pharmaceutical company in Japan, is expanding further with the takeover of drug discovery group Envoy from Florida.

The transaction, valued at $140 million, offers Takeda access to Envoy’s „BacTrap“ technology to mark and extract specific protein-manufacturing components in cells. The technique is particularly useful in the brain, so this process will strengthen the potential of Takeda in the drugs market for the central nervous system.

Envoy was founded in 2009 and has 21 employees. Takeda invested in the company through its investment division Takeda Ventures.
